I'm not Superwoman
Updated: Feb 15, 2021
I am not Superwoman. I am just a normal person. I make mistakes, frequently, and often feel like I am failing at various things. I am a busy working mum who takes on too much and doesn't like to let people down. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea from the social media posts I have been doing...
I try and go to the greengrocers for my fruit and veg so it is plastic free. But I don't go every week and I do enjoy a Morrisons delivery regularly. I try to buy local milk which isn't from a supermarket however it is so much more expensive I can't do this for all of our milk. I buy eco friendly cleaning products but still use bleach once in a blue moon.
We don't have to try to be Superwoman. I don't know why we set such unrealistic expectations for ourselves. But we should stop it!
As soon as I started to be realistic about making changes to my life to make it more eco friendly I found it easier. I found it less intimidating. I started to feel good about the small changes I was making. I slowly started to reduce plastic use in our house and minimise our effect on the environment...
Slowly I chose the easy wins that I knew would fit into my hectic lifestyle. I didn't always get it right. I made mistakes. But I improved our life massively and we are so much more eco friendly it's hard to remember our old ways.
So be kind to yourself.
Don't beat yourself up if you forget - get it wrong - haven't got the time, energy or headspace to make a change this week or month.
Just do what you can, what you can afford and make small adjustments. You'll be surprised what is achievable if you put less pressure on yourself.
